Our consortium of partners builds the foundation.

The experience and skill in the Climate Campaigners consortium ensures a high level of output throughout the project, in everything from scientific reports to policy recommendations.

To produce this material, and to support the Lighthouse Cities and the project development, we've gathered 10 scientific institutes in and outside Europe, 3 civil society organisations, and 3 consultant enterprises.

AUSTRIA

Energieinstitut an der Johannes Kepler Universität Linz

The Energieinstitut an der Johannes Kepler Universität Linz is a not for profit research organisation located in Austria. 35 researchers currently work at the institute in a multidisciplinary structure of three departments (Energy Economics, Energy Law, and Energy Technology) aiming to gain holistic insights into the issues under investigation. The combination of these core disciplines allows for comprehensive analyses that results in practical, implementable and policy-oriented solutions to the myriad challenges facing the European energy sector.

Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is Norway’s largest university with more than 40,000 students and more than 7,100 employees. It has an international focus, with headquarters in Trondheim and campuses in Ålesund and Gjøvik. NTNU has a main profile in science and technology, a variety of programmes of professional study, and great academic breadth that includes the humanities, social sciences, economics, medicine, health sciences, educational science, architecture, entrepreneurship, art disciplines and artistic activities. NTNU is very active in international projects, currently participating in more than a hundred H2020 projects.

University of Cape Town

The Energy Systems Research Group at the University of Cape Town is a multi-disciplinary group of energy researchers. Our researchers draw on a range of specialisations, from statistical and mathematical modelling through to political economy, and behavioural economics. We combine modelling of energy and economic systems with policy analysis and field-based research, to generate and enhance knowledge of energy systems at sectoral, regional, national and sub-continental scales. Based at the University of Cape Town much of our work is focused on South Africa and the SADC region.

A member of the Leibniz Association, the institute is based in Potsdam, Brandenburg and connected with the global scientific community. Drawing on excellent research, PIK provides relevant scientific advice for policy decision-making. The institute’s international staff of more than 350 is led by a committed interdisciplinary team of Directors. This is science – for a safe tomorrow.

Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM), founded in 1989, is a non profit, policy-oriented, international research center and a think-tank producing high-quality, innovative, interdisciplinary and scientifically sound research on sustainable development. It contributes to the quality of decision-making in public and private spheres through analytical studies, policy advice, scientific dissemination and high-level education. AZERBAIJAN

Baku Engineering University (BEU)

Baku Engineering University (BEU) is one of the best higher education institutions functions under the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan. BEU was established on November 8, 2016, with the status of the Public Legal Entity on the base of one private university which it was established in 1993. BEU is situated on a big Campus (20 ha) which is located in the city of Khirdalan. Through its four faculties (Engineering Faculty, Architecture and Construction Faculty, Economics and Administrative Faculty and Pedagogy Faculty), BEU prepares engineers on all levels of higher education, execute programmes of higher and additional education in this sphere, and conduct fundamental and applied science research. BEU is a very active partner university at the Erasmus+ program of European Union within different KA1 agreements and KA2 projects as well as HORIZON 2020 projects with its EU partner universities.

Izmir University of Economics (IUE)

Izmir University of Economics (IUE) is established as the first foundation university in Izmir and in Aegean Region of Türkiye in 2001. IUE initiated energy-related interdisciplinary research and studies in 2011, establishing “Sustainable Energy Division”. Its research focuses on (1) examining the role of energy security in energy policy making, (2) analyzing individual and collective energy choices and social acceptance of energy transitions, and (3) assessing the existing energy and environment policies and targets. Sustainable Energy Division is affiliated with Graduate School of IUE. The division is a member of European Energy Research Alliance (EERA) and e3s joint programme. It is one of the leading member of the Turkish Energy Research community, publishing frequently in high level energy journals and holds an experience of research in numerous European Commission Horizon 2020, including ECHOES, eCREW, EERADATA, CAMPAIGNERS and ENCHANT.

AZERBAIJAN

Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University

Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU), founded in 1920, is the first oil-oriented higher education institution of the Caucasus. One of the largest universities of Azerbaijan it has more than 17000 students and approximately 1500 staff. The preparation of specialists at ASOIU is carried out at all three higher education levels through seven faculties and crucial steps have been taken for the synthesis of education and science in the industry. Although the university’s main focus was oil and gas in the past, currently it offers all modern programmes, as well as increasing its involvement in climate change and green energy. ASOIU is very active in international projects, currently participating in Erasmus+ EU programme, as well as HORIZON 2020 projects.

At Climate Campaigners, we want to combine great science and advocacy with action on the ground and on social media. This is where our Lighthouse Cities come in. In 14 different cities, brave citizens will explore lifestyle choices that are parts of the solution to climate change, facilitated by the cities and municipalities.
